Born Ranch-Raised, Show Ring Ready

Growing up in Randall County, West Texas, agriculture wasn’t something I chose — it was something I was raised in. My family has been ranching for four generations, and from the time I was old enough to hold a bucket, I was involved in the animals, the work, and the lifestyle that comes with it.

Show pigs became my thing early on. There’s something about the daily routine of a show pig project — the feeding schedule, the conditioning, learning to read an animal — that teaches you discipline and patience in a way that nothing else quite does. I compete in Randall County 4H and enter shows across the Texas Panhandle and beyond.

The Show Pig Journey

Show pigs are one of the most competitive livestock projects in 4H — and one of the most demanding. From the moment you pick your animal at a sale or selection, the clock is running. Feed program, conditioning, halter-breaking, washing routine, and learning how to present your pig in front of a judge — it all matters.

I’ve been doing this long enough to know that the kids who win consistently aren’t necessarily the ones with the most expensive pigs. They’re the ones who are most consistent with their daily routine and most attentive to what their animal needs each week of the feed-out.

On this site, I share what I’ve learned — not just about winning, but about the whole experience of being a show livestock kid in the Texas Panhandle.

County fair and regional shows across West Texas. Each show teaches you something new about your pig, your presentation, and yourself.

📚

Record Books

4H record books and SAE documentation are part of the discipline — tracking expenses, weights, feed consumption, and outcomes teaches real agricultural business skills.

FFA Degrees

I’ve earned my Greenhand and Chapter FFA degrees and am working toward my State FFA Degree during senior year — a goal that requires an established SAE, demonstrated leadership, and chapter involvement.

🗣️

Career Development

CDEs are where you test your knowledge against other FFA students. I’ve competed in agricultural science and livestock-related events — they push you to learn more than classroom work alone ever would.

🎯

Leadership

FFA gave me real leadership experience — parliamentary procedure, public speaking, chapter meetings, and representing our chapter at district and state events. These are skills I’ll use for the rest of my life.

Softball & Being a Student Athlete

Softball has been part of my life as long as livestock has. There’s a discipline overlap between being a good show pig person and being a good softball player — both require consistent daily work, coachability, and the ability to perform under pressure when it counts.

Playing softball while managing a show pig project and maintaining FFA responsibilities means my schedule is always full. It’s taught me more about time management than any class I’ve taken. On this site, I share training resources and gear that I’ve found genuinely useful for student athletes who are also ag kids.
